On 2nd August 2023, the Minister of Education Hon. Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima M.P, presided over the handover ceremony of vehicles and motorcycles which the ministry has procured under the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP). The Ministry procured 10 vehicles and 76 motorcycles to the tune of K1.1 billion to support the implementation of the programme across the country. The Malawi Government in partnership with the World Bank and Global Partnership for Education is implementing a four-year programme whose main objective is to improve the learning environments in all public primary schools, targeting the most disadvantaged schools through several interventions. Among other components under this programme, the Ministry will construct a total of 10,900 cost-effective classrooms and 1,000 sanitation blocks. Additionally, the Ministry will provide 2,605 Learner Mentors to various primary schools and these are female school leavers who will act as role models to girls in primary schools that have very few or no female teachers, among others. MERP which was launched in May 2022, runs from December 2021 to December 2025.#Education Is Key.
