Component 2. Improved Learning Environments in Lower Primary to Support Learning Recovery after COVID-19
Government through Malawi Education Reform Program (MERP) is constructing 10,900 classroom blocks and 1,000 sanitation blocks in all 34-education districts. A total of 3,553 schools are benefiting from this project. The funds for the construction of the structures are being disbursed directly to the benefitting schools for the hiring of the local artisans and purchase of construction materials such as cement, iron sheets. Communities are providing raw materials such as sand and water and taking a leading role in recruitment, management and supervision of the local artisans who are constructing the structures.
